Toddler Curriculum
Toddler curriculum is not easy to locate. It seems most curriculums are geared toward the preschool children. There are some programs found online that address toddler’s level of learning, but these programs are usually very expensive, and when you consider what they offer, it’s really just common sense. With a little creativity and a relaxed approach, why don’t you consider making your own curriculum? For ideas, research online. Another great resource is your local day care, or a neighbor who is minding others’ children. At the day care, a toddler’s curriculum will be much more structured. This may give you ideas on how you wish to incorporate learning into your day’s schedule with your toddler.
Getting into a routine with your toddler will give you both something fun and interesting to look forward to as you go through your day. How to create your studies? Toddler curriculum can be anything you wish it to be. Most feel it’s simple to just take the month you are in and relate happenings, weather, holidays, and then decide upon how many letters of the alphabet and the amount of numerals you wish to begin with. Interlace all lessons with these basics learning building blocks.
Some find it a lot of fun to incorporate family history into these lessons. Culture and heritage can be explored in simple ways, such as preparing a meal, doing a chore, and the like. Communicating with family through letter writing can teach the role of the post office, mail box and mail man. The use of the telephone can lead us to the telephone wires and poles. Relation is the key here. Make use of the seasons. Plan lessons outside to take place and learn about the world outside of your home. Toddler curriculum makes use of all free resources.
Teaching hygiene can be a lot of fun if approached as a teachable moment and not a chore. Sing “Wash your hands, wash your hands to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. In teaching your toddler what happens when we sneeze and cough, take a squirt bottle and fill with water. Give your toddler a Kleenex to hold, and spray into Kleenex, coughing or pretending to sneeze. Your toddler gets the instant effect and can see “germs” travel and land. Demonstrate covering mouth with hand and washing our hands immediately. Toddler curriculum at its best includes lives moments that we as adults take for granted.
Another wonderful resource, if used properly, is the television. Become familiar with the children’s shows in your area that makes it their goal to teach children. Upon investigating, you will find that many of these shows have supplements, either in print and available by subscription, or online and accessible by printing for your toddler’s use. Your participation is very important though. Do not be tempted to use this resource as a baby sitter. Your toddler needs you there to focus on this toddler curriculum.
