Unplanned Pregnancy
An unplanned pregnancy has different effects on women and families, depending on what the rest of the situation is like. Sometimes a surprise pregnancy can actually be a happy event, one that is to be celebrated. At other times, it can cause a lot of turmoil for the parents to be, as well as other immediate members of the family.
A pregnancy that isn’t expected can happen for many reasons, even with so many birth control methods available today. It doesn’t matter how faithfully you follow the instructions. Sometimes accidents just happen, and suddenly you have an unplanned pregnancy to deal with. How you and your partner handle it is something that will need to be decided.
Married couples, or couples who have made a commitment to each other, usually deal with a surprise pregnancy differently than a single woman. So what if you don’t have enough money or your career will have to be put on hold for a little while? The truth is that, for most couples, if you waited until you were TRULY ready to have a baby, you would probably never get pregnant. The money will be there for the new baby because it will have to be. Your career will still be waiting for you once you are ready to return to it. This unplanned pregnancy will turn into a joyous event and you will wonder why you ever worried.
Single women have a bit more to think about if they suddenly find themselves pregnant. There are so many variables with this situation. Will you have the support, emotional and financial, of the father? Will he want to be a part of the child’s life? Just how much of this will you have to go through all alone? Who will look after the baby when you return to work? There are so many decisions to make. If you decide to have the baby and keep it, you will want to spend the months before the birth getting your ducks in a row. When you have an unplanned pregnancy, it’s much better to prepare ahead of time so that you will have less stress once your surprise bundle of joy has arrived.
There are options for the baby that comes from a surprise pregnancy. One of these is adoption. While this option is usually chosen by single women, there are many married women who choose this option as well. The other option is abortion. There is really nothing else to do once you are pregnant. You will choose to have the baby and keep it, have the baby and allow a family to adopt, or not follow through with the pregnancy. Once you are past a certain point in the pregnancy, abortion is no longer an option.
An unplanned pregnancy can be a blessing or a curse, depending on how you view it. But whatever the circumstances, should you be faced with this situation, you should decide very quickly what road you will be traveling.
